#4 - Clinton

Mat 19, 2008 | Clinton, Mississippi

Writing y’all from Clinton, Louisiana.. Got a ride with a pig farmer from up in Brookhaven, and that sure was real nice of him, except he said I had to sit in the back of his truck, where the pigs were sittin.. Whooee! That’s some baad smells coming out of those pigs!
It was almost like that one time, when I had to share my bedroom with my aunt Berta, and she’d been eating too much of my mamas cabbage soup, and I woke up in the mornin and couldn’t breathe no more! Whew! And then of course, there was that one pig.. Now I ain’t saying I don’t appreciate kindness in anyone.. It’s just that pig was a little too friendly.. And I.. Well we’ll just not mention that story no more now.. So y’all’ll understand when I say I had to jump off that truck fore we were even in Baton Rouge, and that’s how I came to end up at this place.

Now all this time on the road is giving me good oppertunities to practice my skill and be a real good actor. Y’all know that speech from Independence Day, where the president is saying To-day, we celebrate, our independence day! and everybody cheers real loud like, yeah, I’ve been practicing that speech the whole way here. And the pigs sure seemed to like it!

Anyway, this journey sure is fine. The nights do get a little bit cold on account of my only having this one torn t-shirt to wear, but I’m so excited I’m not even upset! Oh, and in Monticello, there was this rail road bridge that was so pretty, and I thought gosh it would be nice to ride the trains like they did back in the day, like in that Bob Dylan movie I just saw. Now that’s feelin the free!!

And guess what, I’m almost at the mighty Mississippi river (That’s a tough one to spell! :-) and I think I’ll be crossing it pretty soon. There’s a place called Saint Francisville not far from here an I think it’s the closest place for me to get over. Now I can’t believe it! The Missippi river!! Wow. Alright, can’t stay for much longer. Tell everyone back home I love em. And feel the free!!
